How to Get Your Spa Winter-Ready

by Dec 23, 2025

There’s something magical about winter. The crisp crunch of footsteps in fresh snow, a hush that makes the world feel slower, and rosy cheeks from the cold are all part of winter’s charm. And for hot tub owners, winter brings its own kind of romance: steam drifting into the night sky, soft jets humming beneath you, and the simple pleasure of sinking into warmth while the world shivers around you.

But every cozy winter ritual begins with a little care. At Arctic Spas®, we pride ourselves on building hot tubs that are engineered to withstand the world’s harshest climates. So, before you settle into those starry-night soaks, it’s important to make sure your spa is ready for the season. In this blog, we’ll show you how your Arctic Spa protects itself through winter, and the simple steps you can take to keep it running safely, efficiently, and comfortably in the cold.

Designed for Year-Round Use

Winter is a wonderful time to enjoy your Arctic Spa, but let’s face it, keeping your hot tub safe from freezing temperatures can be a bit worrisome. That’s why Arctic Spas® hot tubs are not only designed to keep you warm, relaxed, and comfortable in every season; we have also developed thoughtful features and cozy accessories that keep your spa running beautifully all year long.

Smart Protection for the Coldest Days

Smart Winter Mode (Core Series):

Inside your Arctic Spas® hot tub control system, there’s a special temperature sensor keeping a close watch on the air inside the equipment compartment – that’s where all the important pipes and pumps live. This smart sensor constantly monitors the temperature and adjusts the pump activity accordingly. It stays activated for 24 hours and remains on if the temperature stays below 68°F (20°C). It’s like a gentle reminder that even when it’s freezing outside, your hot tub is prepared.

Here’s a quick breakdown:

  • No Risk (Over 70°F/21°C): Relax! Everything’s good.
  • Low Risk (Around 68°F/20°C): The system will purge water every two hours.
  • Medium Risk (Around 59°F/15°C): The system will purge water every hour.
  • High Risk (Around 53°F/12°C): Pumps run for one minute every 30 minutes.
  • Extreme Risk (Around 50°F/10°C): Pumps run every 15 minutes.

FreeHeat: This Arctic Spas® innovation is an insulation system designed to trap internal warmth, reducing energy consumption and keeping your spa frost-free even in sub-zero temperatures. This advanced insulation ensures your hot tub remains warm and ready for use, no matter the weather outside. This also improves overall energy efficiency. This system allows you to enjoy your hot tub without worrying about high energy bills or the need for frequent maintenance.

Forever Floor™: A weather-proof and moisture-proof foundation that helps cut down on energy consumption by reducing heat loss through your spa’s floor. Arctic Spas® uses impermeable SMC fiberglass and top-of-the-line insulation to make your hot tub more energy efficient while protecting it from structural damage caused by moisture or harsh weather.

Durability Meets Winter Comfort

Mylovac™ Cover: The Mylovac™ cover is built tough with high-density foam and a strong metal insert, making it perfect for keeping your hot tub warm in all kinds of weather. The cover easily holds snow and ice, helps retain heat, extends the life of your hot tub, and reduces energy costs. It keeps your spa at a ready-to-use temperature, so you can jump in and relax on demand.

Handrails: An essential part of using your Arctic hot tub in the winter is ensuring safe entry and exit, especially when the floors get icy and slippery in the winter months. Our hand rails are designed to offer outstanding strength, durability, and stability throughout the winter, and can be easily removed once the weather warms up.

Maintenance Made Simple

While our hot tubs are designed to run year-round, a few extra steps can ensure your spa continues to run smoothly, especially during the winter months.

  • Regularly testing your spa’s pH, alkalinity, and sanitizer levels is essential for keeping your water safe and healthy. But with Arctic Spas® automated Spa Boy® and SmartPH™ systems, you no longer have to worry about manual testing, they do the work for you!
  • Remove and clean the filter cartridges regularly, and store them in a dry place to prevent mold and bacterial growth.
  • Periodically inspect your spas’ electrical connections to ensure it is secure and protected from moisture to protect against shock hazards.
  • If snow accumulates on your Mylovac™ cover, clear it off to prevent excessive weight that could damage the cover or the spa itself.
  • Contact your nearest Arctic Spas® dealer to inquire about our winterization service that prepares your spa for frost, ice, and cold winds. Service includes:
  • Draining and cleaning your spa
  • Capping the Spa Boy® probe
  • Lining hoses with anti-freeze
